Quentin Dumontier and his team, the Embassy of France and the New Zealand Portrait Gallery invite you to discover INSIDE OUT NZ.

Since early January, French traveller Quentin Dumontier has been paving the streets of Wellington, taking photographic portraits of passers-by as part of the global participative art project, INSIDE OUT. Over 300 high scale pictures are to be displayed at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery from March 10th until the end of the month.

On March 8th, from 9:00am until 5:00pm, Wellingtonians are invited to join in the project by taking part in the setting up of the exhibition, sticking their own or another’s portrait on the wall.  Inside Out around the worldIn 2011, French street artist, JR called for the creation of a global participatory art project, called INSIDE OUT: a global platform that transforms messages of personal identity into works of public art. Using black-and-white portraits, the idea is for anyone to help dis-cover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people from around the world. The INSIDE OUT project has gone from Ecuador to Nepal, from Mexico to Palestine, from Times Square to Christchurch inspiring group actions on varied themes such as hope, diversity, gender-based violence, climate change. Over 120,000 people from more than 108 countries have participated.Inside Out in Wellington Quentin Dumortier brought the project to Wellington in early 2014, taking impromptu portraits of local residents all around the city. Check out the Facebook page, INSIDE OUT NZ.Quentin’s artistic approach:“The goal is to take over the city of Wellington, to be a part of its artistic expression and to create an alive area of human activity. The project also aims to raise questions about the power of images in a world of images. Highlighting particularly expressive anonymous faces, from smiles to tears, joy to astonishment, grimaces to serenity, spreads a message about personal narratives which, put together, reveals backgrounds and highlights common destinies
